Geography & Climate of Bhutan

Perched in the Himalayan region, Bhutan is a landlocked country that is surrounded by the two largest democracies of South Asia, India and China. Spread across more than 38,000 sq km of land, the Himalayan kingdom is known for its rich wildlife and biodiversity that is home to numerous wild animals and bird species.

The elevation of Bhutan ranges from 150 m in the south to 7,300 m in the north which includes diverse landscapes along with dramatic variations in the climatic conditions that change from place to place. The southern belt of the country offers a subtropical climate with high humidity and rainfall with an average temperature of around 15-30 degrees Celsius, while the northern part of Bhutan includes snowcapped peaks and rich alpine meadows that offer cool summers and freezing winters. The average rainfall of the country is around 2006.55 mm annually.
